3 Reasons We Love Mondays

Happy Monday! Understandably, this time of year can be a bit of a dampener for many due to the dark and the cold, but do not despair! We have some good news from around the world to brighten your day and realise that Mondays aren’t really all that bad…

1. Aung San Suu Kyi is ahead in the Myanmar election

After 15 years of house arrest by an oppressive military government, the 70-year-old nobel peace prize winner’s party, the NLD, is in a strong position to win the Myanmar election. US Secratary of State, John Kerry, is praising the elections as “a testament to the courage and sacrifice made by the people of Burma over many decades”.

2. A Welsh barber helps an autistic boy overcome his fear of haircuts

Jim Williams of Jim the Trim in Brighton Ferry, south Wales, took a very unusual approach to cutting Mason Lewis’ hair. After it was revealed that he was afraid of the barber’s chair, Jim lay on the floor in order to make Mason more comfortable with the experience. Unsurprisingly, photos of the encounter have gone viral and Jim has been flat out ever since…

3. An unusual friendship between a man and a penguin

4 years ago, 71-year-old retired brick layer, Joao Pereira de Souza, found a Patagonian penguin, covered in oil on the beach near his home on Ihla Grande off the south east coast of Brazil. de Souza nursed the penguin, which he named Jingjing, back to health and every year since the penguin has returned to de Souza’s house for a two-week period. During his visits, the two walk on the beach together, surf and share a can of sardines. If that doesn’t make you feel warm and fuzzy, not much will!

Happy Monday.
